SHC

For two weeks each year, harp students and professionals of all ages and levels, players of pedal and non-pedal harps, gather together to learn with one another in an unique apprenticeship setting.  2008 marks the ninth Summer Harp Course that Susan Allen has organized.

Living together in a large Craftsman style home built in the 1890s, our group studies music theory, solo repertoire, ensemble music, yoga and other special topics such as arranging and career development.  In 2008, resident artists will be Susan Allen and Stella Castellucci, along with renowned visiting artists.  Studies will include classical, jazz and popular harp music, both through private lessons as well as in seminars.

Located less than a mile from the Pacific Ocean and just two blocks from the Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy, our setting is ideal for hiking, swimming and enjoying coastal Southern California.

Our learning environment is cooperative, supportive and non-competitive.  Students enjoy working together on repertoire and improving their playing.  Harp ensembles provide an opportunity for making music together.

The two weeks culminate with a final student concert of solo and ensemble works, while solo recitals and master classes by visiting artists complement the remainder of the course.

An all-inclusive fee of $1760 includes lodging, three meals a day, all tuition and activities for the two weeks.  Tuition scholarships are available.  Harps are available for out-of-state or international students.
